Durable Showroom Stickers for Sytner BMW

At Print and Design It, we’re often approached when something hasn’t quite gone to plan. In this case, the challenge seemed simple on the surface: table stickers for a premium car showroom. But as we quickly discovered, the real issue wasn’t how the stickers looked, it was how they performed.

This is a perfect example of why choosing the right material matters just as much as the design itself.

The Problem

Sytner BMW had produced branded stickers to apply directly onto tables in their showroom. These tables are used daily by customers and staff for consultations, paperwork, refreshments and discussions. Naturally, they’re cleaned frequently to maintain a spotless, high-end environment.

The issue?

Every time the tables were wiped down, the stickers began to deteriorate.

They started lifting at the edges. The print began to wear away. The surface weakened and broke down.

In a premium showroom setting, this isn’t just inconvenient, it reflects poorly on the brand. Worn or peeling graphics undermine the polished, professional look that a brand like BMW is known for.

The stickers weren’t fit for purpose. They simply hadn’t been produced with durability and cleaning resistance in mind.

Why It Happened

This is a common issue when standard vinyl or non-laminated stickers are used in high-contact environments.

Many printed stickers look great when first applied. However, without protective lamination, they are vulnerable to:

  • Cleaning chemicals

  • Repeated moisture exposure

  • Friction from cloths and wipes

  • Daily surface contact

Showroom furniture isn’t a low-impact surface. It’s touched, wiped, leaned on and cleaned constantly. Without the correct material specification, deterioration is inevitable.

In this case, the original stickers weren’t manufactured to withstand that level of wear.

Our Approach

When Sytner BMW approached us, the goal wasn’t to redesign the artwork. The branding was already established and approved. The real challenge was ensuring the new solution would last.

We assessed three key factors:

  1. Surface type (smooth showroom tables)

  2. Frequency of cleaning

  3. Type of wear and tear expected in a retail automotive environment

The solution was clear: laminated vinyl stickers.

We supplied high-quality vinyl graphics with a protective laminate layer applied over the printed surface. This laminate acts as a shield, protecting the ink and vinyl from:

  • Cleaning chemicals

  • Moisture

  • Abrasion

  • UV exposure

Importantly, the laminate also makes the surface fully wipe-clean without damaging the print beneath.

Why Laminated Vinyl Was the Right Choice

Laminated vinyl is specifically designed for environments where durability is essential.

Unlike uncoated stickers, the laminate creates a sealed protective barrier. This means:

  • The print won’t fade or smudge during cleaning

  • Edges are less likely to lift

  • The surface remains smooth and professional

  • The graphic maintains its appearance over time

For high-traffic commercial spaces, especially premium automotive showrooms, this level of durability is non-negotiable.

The Result

The new laminated vinyl stickers were installed on the showroom tables, and the difference was immediate.

They retained a crisp, high-quality finish. They could be cleaned daily without damage. They stayed securely in place.

Most importantly, they continued to look professional even after repeated cleaning cycles.

The showroom could maintain its hygiene standards without compromising branding.

Problem solved.

What This Highlights

This project reinforces an important lesson in commercial print:

The cheapest or quickest option isn’t always the most cost-effective in the long run.

If materials aren’t suited to their environment, they’ll fail prematurely, leading to replacement costs, inconvenience and potential brand impact.

When specifying print for:

  • Retail environments

  • Automotive showrooms

  • Hospitality venues

  • Healthcare settings

  • High-contact surfaces

Durability should always be considered at the outset.

A small upgrade in material specification can significantly extend lifespan and improve performance.

Why Specification Matters

In print, two products can look identical when first installed but behave very differently over time.

Without understanding:

  • How the product will be used

  • How often it will be cleaned

  • What it will be exposed to

It’s easy to choose a material that simply isn’t fit for purpose.

That’s where experience makes a difference.

By asking the right questions and understanding the working environment, we ensure the solution performs as well as it looks.

Final Thoughts

For Sytner BMW, the issue wasn’t design quality. It wasn’t installation. It was durability.

By switching to laminated vinyl, we provided a practical, long-term solution that supports both brand standards and operational needs.

In high-end environments, details matter. A peeling sticker might seem minor but in a premium showroom, every surface contributes to the overall experience.

Choosing the right material ensures that branding remains sharp, professional and resilient, no matter how often it’s cleaned.

If you’re planning surface graphics, stickers or signage for a commercial space, it’s worth asking one key question:

Will this still look good in six months’ time?

If you’re unsure, we’re here to help you get it right the first time.
